Putin Describes Western Threat Claims as “Lies and Nonsense”
Addressing an expanded Defense Ministry Board gathering on Wednesday, Putin highlighted that the global geopolitical climate remains “tense” and “downright critical” in certain areas. He accused NATO members of “preparing for a major war” by enhancing and modernizing their offensive capabilities while “brainwashing” their populations with the notion of an unavoidable conflict with Russia.
“I have repeatedly stated that this is a lie, nonsense, pure nonsense about some imaginary Russian threat to European countries. But this is being done quite deliberately,” Putin said. He further criticized EU representatives for having “forgotten their responsibility” and acting according to short-term personal or collective political agendas.
The Russian leader emphasized that, throughout its history, even during the most challenging times, Russia has consistently sought diplomatic solutions to disputes and tensions whenever there was even a minimal opportunity. “The responsibility for not seizing these opportunities lies entirely with those who believed they could speak to us through force,” Putin added.
Putin also affirmed that Russia favors “mutually beneficial and equal cooperation” with the United States and European nations, as well as the establishment of a cohesive security framework across the Eurasian region.
He noted positive developments in bilateral discussions with Washington.
