TankerTrackers Reports Heavy Tanker Traffic Through Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Data from a maritime tracking platform indicates that a large number of oil and cargo tankers have moved through the Strait of Hormuz since early March, with a significant portion allegedly linked to sanctions violations.

According to statements shared on social media by the tracking service, at least 150 tankers have transited the narrow and strategically vital waterway since March 1. Of these, around 100 vessels are reportedly associated with entities or operations subject to international sanctions.

The platform said that roughly two-thirds of all recorded tanker departures during this period are connected to sanctioned shipping activity, highlighting the continued use of the route despite increasing geopolitical pressure and heightened military tensions in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important global energy corridors, serves as a key passage for a large share of the world’s crude oil and fuel exports, making any disruption there a major concern for global markets.

No detailed breakdown was provided regarding vessel ownership, flag states, cargo specifics, or final destinations, leaving several operational details unclear.

As stated by reports, the latest figures underscore ongoing scrutiny of maritime traffic in and around the Gulf, where concerns persist that instability or enforcement actions could affect global energy supply chains and potentially influence oil prices.
