DOJ Meets Anti-Abortion Groups After Firing Pro-Abortion Staff
John Mize, chief executive of Americans United for Life, confirmed he met with officials from the department's Civil Rights Division and expressed strong support for a newly released report by a Trump administration working group — which accused the Justice Department under former President Joe Biden of improperly aligning itself with abortion-rights groups to enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, a 1994 law designed to shield abortion clinics and patients from threats and violence.
The Trump administration confirmed it dismissed at least four employees connected to that enforcement work, framing the firings as a necessary correction to what it characterized as departmental misuse.
Mize welcomed the dismissals, describing the alleged coordination between federal prosecutors and outside advocacy groups as "troubling."
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche sharpened the criticism further, accusing former prosecutors of having worked "hand in hand" with external organizations — language that underscored the administration's intent to distance the department from its predecessor's approach.
A Justice Department spokesperson pushed back against any suggestion of bias, stating that the Civil Rights Division routinely engages with organizations across the ideological spectrum while ultimately setting enforcement priorities in line with the sitting administration's policies.
